Nigeria Beat Tanzania 2–1 as Osimhen Goes Scoreless Despite Multiple Chances

In the first round of Group C at the Africa Cup of Nations, Nigeria defeated Tanzania 2–1 to get off to a winning start. Nigeria’s star striker Victor Osimhen had seven shots in the match, three of which were on target, but failed to find the net. In the 35th minute, Osimhen was through on goal and rounded the goalkeeper, only for his tap-in to be dramatically cleared off the line by a defender. Shortly after the start of the second half, Osimhen flicked the ball into the net with a backheel from close range, but the goal was ruled out for offside.
